   Seventh Point is known for its video capabilities. In years past, capturing aerial footage was very expense. It involved contracting a helicopter and pilot, renting very expensive stabilizing equipment and taking a healthy dose of Dramamine to avoid airsickness. Thankfully, those are all things of the past.
State-of-the-art drones equipped with lightweight, high-definition cameras make capturing stunning images from high in the sky very affordable. Recently, a local automotive retailer contacted us about capturing aerial footage of their newly expanded and renovated dealership. The biggest challenge was the United States Navy. The dealership sits within Naval Air Station Oceana’s restricted airspace. Through our extensive network of video partners, we were able to find an FAA-licensed drone pilot that was also approved to operate within Oceana’s airspace. 
Seventh Point’s video team also put the drone to the test inside the dealership. We were able to capture some impressive footage that would have traditionally involved setting up a track dolly and a jib arm. Instead of hours of set-up, we were able to capture these images in minutes. “

As a realtor can I do the pictures myself?

Yes, but you will be operation as a commercial pilot. Rules apply when acting commercially. Here are the Rules.

As a realtor do you have the time for the following?

  • Study and obtain a part 107 license

  • Obtain airspace classifications for your area of operations

  • Editing Video/pictures

  • Insurance premium


What's the penalty of using a non-licensed operator?

Liability for unauthorized operations can fall on both the pilot and who hired the pilot (Realtor).

14 CFR 1.1 defines operator as:

"Operate, with respect to aircraft, means use, cause to use or authorize to use aircraft, for the purpose (except as provided in 91.13 if this chapter) of air navigation including the piloting of aircraft with or without the right of legal control (as owner, lessee, or otherwise)."

In this case, someone who causes the operation can be liable as well. The way the civil penalty provision is written, the pilotwould only face a fine of $1,100 per violation ( as an individual acting as an airman), while the person who cause the operation could be liable for a fine of $11,000 (as an individual not acting as an airman).

So make sure your Drone Operator has an Airman of Certificate and appropriate airspace permission!!!!!!

Kim Cheek

On Dec 14th, 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting Kim at the Powhatan Library. My first impressions of Kim was she was full of life and very positive. I got to know a lot about Kim that day and her career and I wish her the best with her journey.

Born in the small remote town of Edenton, North Carolina, Kim Cheek grew up the youngest of three children to Robert and Patricia Cheek. Spending her days as most country girls back then, going to school, staying out until the streetlights come on and being protected by her two older brothers. It was when she was 12 she left her little country life for the hustle of Richmond, Virginia.

Graduating with an advanced studies diploma, Kim went on to attend college and receive her Associates and Bachelor's degrees in Business and Healthcare Administration, her Medical Assistance degree and become a director of several medical facilities during her career. She became to realize that though she had her four wonderful boys and a very successful career, that something was missing. She still wasn't quite happy with her self. She had an opportunity arise to be an extra in a student film and she thought " sure, why not, it sounds fun". That was all it took! That's what was missing! She changed careers.

Kim is now known for her most recent roles on: For My Man as Mrs. Pike, who is a raging alcoholic. She also starred in Alaska Ice Cold Killers as Brenda Carr, who is the sister of the victim. She has many background roles under her belt as well such as: Mercy Street, House of Cards, Public Affairs, Imperium, Legends & Lies and Permanent. She is one of the most versatile actresses you will have the pleasure of working with. From handling firearms to a true southern bell, she will definitely charm her way into your heart.
